Are We More Than Friends?

Not a thing, but kind of a thing: the weekend plans that became the default, the late-night conversations that go somewhere friends' conversations don't usually go, and the question neither of you has been able to say out loud. This reads what has actually changed between you, and what's being left unsaid about it.

What this looks at

  • How time together and closeness compare with the way things usually are between the two of you, and whether the shift is coming from both sides
  • What happens when the question comes near: joked past, left alone, or said out loud
  • How the people around you read it, and what you want this to be

This is a reading of the shift you described, not a fact about what your friend feels and not advice. More in the disclaimer.

How this reading works

This reading compares how things are between you now with how your friendship usually is, using only what you have noticed. It reads three things: closeness that friends do not usually have, and whether both of you reach for it; time together that has grown past what the friendship used to involve; and what happens when the question comes near — joked past, left in silence, or said out loud. It also asks how long you have been friends, when it started to feel different, and what you want, because those separate a shift from a good friendship. More-than-friends signals, both ways means the change shows on both sides; one side means something real has changed while only one of you is naming it; too early means there is not enough before-and-after yet; friendship signals, mostly means what you described still looks like the friendship itself. It cannot tell you what your friend feels, or why they turn the question. This reading works from what you tell it: it looks for patterns in your answers, it cannot see anything you did not describe, it does not know what anyone else is thinking, and it does not predict what happens next.

Questions people ask

  • Does this work whether it's a he, a she or they?

Yes, identically. Same ten questions, same reading, same four results — none of it asks the gender of either of you, and none of it changes. It's written for anyone wondering about anyone they're close to, so whichever way you searched for it, this is the page that answers it.

  • Is this accurate?

It's as accurate as what you noticed, because that's all it has. It reads the shift you describe against the way your friendship usually runs, and says what that shape often goes with. What it can't see is what your friend feels, why they turn the question if they do, whether the closeness means the same thing to both of you, or whether the friendship would come through the asking. A reading taken after you've actually talked will look different — that's the point of taking it now.

  • Is this a quiz or a calculator?

Neither, really. There's no right answer to any of the ten questions and no score at the end. It sorts what you described about your specific friendship into one of four patterns and gives you one calm thing to do next. Nothing comes back as a number, a percentage or a grade.

  • Is it private?

No answer you tap leaves your phone. The reading is worked out on your device, nothing about your friend is stored anywhere, and there's no name, no message and no free text to store in the first place. If you share the result, the card carries the calculator's name and the reading's name — never an answer, never anything about your friend, and never which side is doing the saying.

  • Does this tell me if my friend likes me back?

No, and it won't pretend to. It reads what has changed between the two of you and what's being said or left unsaid about it — not their feelings, which no set of questions can reach. If what you really want to know is whether the interest is there at all from someone you're not already close to, Do They Like You? is the one for that. If the two of you are already kind of dating, or you've already said what this is, Relationship Potential is yours. And if the honest summary of your situationship is "nobody has said anything yet", that's what the reading here is for.
