Marriage Compatibility

The future has come up between you — a lease, a friend's announcement, a question left hanging in the car — and neither of you has quite said everything you think. This reads where the two of you line up across the topics a marriage, or any long-term commitment, is made of, and names the one conversation worth having next.

What this looks at

  • How you each see the things a long life together is made of: what matters most, money, family and where you would live, and the next few years.
  • How the future comes up between you, and how decisions actually get made.
  • How disagreements go, whether they settle, and what you would want to talk about next.

Thinking about a long future with someone can sit heavily as well as hopefully, and having topics you have never discussed is ordinary rather than a sign that something is wrong. Nothing here is a judgment of you or of your partner, and nothing here decides anything. If any of this feels bigger than a conversation, it is worth talking to someone you trust, or to someone whose job it is to help.

How this reading works

This reading looks at the topics a long-term commitment is made of: what matters most to each of you, how you each treat money, family and where you would live, and the picture you each have of the next few years. It also asks how the future comes up, how decisions get made, what follows a disagreement, and where you stand yourself. One distinction runs through it: a difference you have talked about is not the same as one never raised. Broadly aligned means the shapes match, or the differences have been talked through. Aligned, with a few gaps means one or two topics do not. Not talked through yet means those conversations have not happened. Gaps in key places means differences sit in more than one topic. Worth working through first means the pattern is wider than any one topic. It cannot know what your partner would say, or whether a difference can be worked out. This reading works from what you tell it: it looks for patterns in your answers, it cannot see anything you did not describe, it does not know what anyone else is thinking, and it does not predict what happens next.

Questions people ask

  • Does this work whether it's a he, a she or they?

Yes — same questions, same reading. It is written for any two people, and nothing in it assumes a gender on either side, or a legal or religious form for whatever the two of you are deciding.

  • Is this accurate?

It reflects the topics you describe and what that combination often goes with, so it is as accurate as your own account of them. It does not know what your partner would say if you asked them directly, whether a difference can be worked out, or what the two of you should decide. A reading taken after the conversation it points you to may look quite different — that is the point of the next step rather than a flaw in the reading.

  • Is this a quiz or a calculator?

Neither, really. There is no score, no percentage and no right answer. Every question feeds one of the topics a long-term commitment is made of, and the reading sorts what you described into a pattern and gives you one conversation to have next.

  • Is it private?

Nothing you answer leaves your phone. The reading is worked out on your device, nothing about your partner is stored, the questions never ask about amounts of money, and if you share the result the card carries the reading's name and nothing else.

  • Does this only work if we want to get married?

No. "Marriage" is the word people search with, and it is why the page is called what it is — but the questions read a long-term commitment in whatever form the two of you want, including moving in together, or building a life without ever marrying. Nothing here assumes children, a ceremony, a legal form, a religion, or that you live together. If what is actually in front of you is a lease rather than a life, every question still reads the same way.
